Coaching changes Īfter assistant coach Tony Levine left the Cardinals for a job in the NFL, he was replaced as special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach by Tom McMahon. Returning eight starters from their 2005 offense, including Brian Brohm and Michael Bush and nine starters on a defense that allowed 320 yards a game the team was picked, by the Big East media, to finish second in the conference. After the loss, they were ranked 19th in the nation. The Cardinals finished the 2005 season with a 9–3 record, including a loss in the Gator Bowl.
